The Saint Louis Heights neighborhood in Honolulu is filled with older single-family homes, which line the 483 foot Wa’ahila Ridge and offer residents beautiful views of Waikiki and Honolulu city skylines, ocean, Diamond Head, magnificent sunsets and gorgeous city lights.

The location is minutes to Downtown to the west and Kahala and the East Oahu coastline to the east. Kapiolani Boulevard and Kapahulu Avenue provide a 10-minute drive to Waikiki and Diamond Head. Saint Louis Heights also overlooks University of Hawaii Manoa campus with quick access on Dole Street at the foot of the neighborhood. Most of the residential area is located up on the hillside, but there is an impressive amount of nearby business activity providing residents with ample restaurants and shopping on Waialae and Kapahulu Avenues.

Both main streets have a large variety of restaurants in every cuisine and price range. Aside from the multiple shops and eateries that line Waialae Avenue, a short distance away is Kahala Mall, which includes a Macy’s and Whole Foods Market.

Saint Louis Heights is a part of the Kaimuki Complex school district, which consists of seven elementary schools, Washington and Jarrett Middle Schools, and Kaimuki High School. The grounds of Kaimuki High School also house the Kaimuki Community School, a learning center for adults. There is also Saint Louis School at the base of the residential area, a private, all-boys academy housed on the campus of Chaminade University.

Kanewai Field city park, located on Dole Street, has baseball and soccer fields, basketball and tennis courts, a pool and playground. The Wa’ahila Ridge hiking trail begins at the Wa’ahila Ridge State Recreation Area, located at the top end of St. Louis Heights Drive. The trail is also called the St. Louis Trail. It’s an intermediate level hike with beautiful views of Manoa Valley and Honolulu.

Today, real estate on Saint Louis Heights is in high demand. Most of the homes were built from 1940 through 1960 and offer an affordable option for dual income couples wanting to live in a wonderful Honolulu neighborhood, than some of the more expensive surrounding neighborhoods in the Diamond Head area. The average price for a Saint Louis Heights home is $745,000 but range from $600,000 to $1,200,000+ for homes at the top of the ridge.

My property listing located at 1342 Saint Louis Drive was built in 1940, one of the first homes built on the ridge. Perched high and facing Ewa, it looks over Kanewai Field with panoramic views of the city, ocean, Diamond Head, Waikiki and rainbows stretching across from Manoa Valley. There are stunning views from the huge open lanai on the top floor of this two level home featuring gorgeous hardwood floors, ceramic tile in kitchen and bath with 2 bedrooms and one bath and garage upstairs and a 2 bedroom, 1 bath unit with lanai downstairs, with a separate entrance and parking. The lot of approximately 5230 square feet, has an amazing terraced garden with an abundance of fruit and vegetables and includes 4 mango trees, a pink grapefruit and avocado tree and multiple garden plots to grow anything from arugula, corn and carrots to beets, tomatoes and eggplant. It’s a charming Hawaiian home with fantastic views, a great location, and rental possibilities.

In Hawaiian, Honolulu means “sheltered bay” or “place of shelter”. Following a short period when the capital of the islands was in Kailua-Kona, Kamehameha III moved the capital permanently to Honolulu in 1845. Monarchs that followed developed Honolulu into a modern center of the Kingdom. Landmarks such as Iolani Palace, Ali’iolani Hale and St. Andrews Cathedral were erected during the monarchy period. Iolani Palace is actually the second royal palace, built and completed in 1882 under the reign of David Kalakaua. The only royal palace in the United States had electricity and telephones prior to The White House.

An icon of the Honolulu skyline, Aloha Tower, once the tallest building in the state, graced the waterfront in 1926 and was a welcoming beacon into Honolulu Harbor. A working harbor, it is our pivotal port for cruise ships and the transport of freight. Today, the skyline near the harbor is quite different with many skyscrapers that dwarf the tower.

Downtown Honolulu is the financial, commercial, and governmental center of Hawaii. Additionally, Downtown is noted for its cultural venues with the restoration and re-opening of Hawaii Theater and the re-awakening of Chinatown. The openings of hip restaurants and nightclubs have followed the art galleries and upscale retail shops. Downtown is a vibrant and colorful neighborhood and offers its residents a diverse and comfortable lifestyle.

As a long time resident of the neighborhood, I can attest to the area’s many charms. My neighborhood includes Chinatown to the west and the Capitol District to the East. Where else in the world can one dine in a French bistro and then enjoy a Hawaiian music concert in a historic theater? Where else in the world can one tour a palace and enjoy dim sum in a Chinatown restaurant a couple of blocks away? And all of this is within walking distance of your apartment!

There are truly great residential buildings downtown. Harbor Square and Harbor Court are close to the waterfront and provide interesting panoramas overlooking Honolulu Harbor. From Harbor Court one can look down on the decks of cruise ships, which are docked right across the street when in port. Some units in Harbor Square overlook Iolani Palace and the Capitol district dominated by the distinctive architecture of the State Capitol and surrounded by lots of open green space. Mauka are more wonderful buildings such as Honolulu Park Place, Honolulu Tower, Capitol Place, and The Pinnacle Honolulu. Views from these buildings are stunning, mauka to makai. Each building offers unique characteristics and amenities. For example, Honolulu Park Place has a bowling alley within its recreational facilities. Available space options in all downtown buildings include a range from studios, 1, 2, and 3 bedroom units and in the case of The Pinnacle Honolulu, very spacious full floor units.

For those seeking a comfortable urban lifestyle, no place beats downtown. The area is perfect for those who work in the neighborhood and want the convenience of walking to work. Residents develop a sense of community and are proud of the historic and cultural aspects of the neighborhood. And at this time of year, downtown is very special as blocks are adorned with lights and decorations of the season. If you haven’t already, take a stroll down Bishop Street and then on to City Hall and enjoy the glittering city blocks of the neighborhood. You will appreciate the many wonders of downtown and the experience will add a special memory to your Holiday Season.

With the winter swells rolling through the North Shore, a surge of life has once again taken over the Bluffs. Earth is once again moving on the lots as the neighborhood enters into a new stage. There are a few lots now with homes under construction, bringing a new face to the Bluffs. And lucky for you, there are still some great ocean view lots available for sale in the North Shore’s newest subdivision!

Haleiwa is bustling with its winter residents back at their winter homes. With the growing popularity of the North Shore, these ocean view lots are the perfect buy for investors and those smitten with the North Shore’s unique culture.

The excitement of the new homeowners is reminiscent of the North Shore vibe. Each new owner stops by when they see that our sales office door is open. They pop their heads in and we sit and talk about the new lots that sold, or the next stage of construction for

their new home. There is nothing but that contagious upbeat attitude that fills the office, and it resonates to the beautiful ocean view lots that surround it.

Come out to feel and see what it is all about! Visit the site, and meet your new neighbors, friends, and see what this subdivision has to offer! Experience the North Shore, the scenic ocean views, the pristine beaches, and fall in love with a lifestyle. Luckily, unlike the winter swells, these lots and their ocean views are here to stay!

Not only was there a celebration of the network’s 25th anniversary, key influential members were honored into its Billionaires Club, a specialty group of brokers who have transacted at least $1 billion in sales during their career. Proudly, Mary Worrall was honored for her outstanding sales record. She joins only 16 other Billionaires Club members from the entire Who’s Who in Luxury Real Estate Membership of more than 56,000 agents. This wonderful achievement is due to her loyal clients. Congratulations Mary!
